What are homologs?Homology refers to the similarities between species or genes attributed to descent from a common ancestor [1]. Genes, proteins, or structures that share a common ancestor are called "homologs".
Studying homologous proteins in model organisms allows for valuable insight into protein functions and genetic diseases in human and non-human species. |
